The patented Z-Lock is the first ever tapered bore locking collar system.  Just tighten the cap screws properly and the specialized tapered bore collar provides extreme holding power on the shaft without causing any damage.  This is a true 360 degree locking mechanism.


Roller bearings are often utilized in highly demanding applications where heavy shock loads are typical. These challenging environments can wreak havoc on bearings by loosening the locking mechanism and causing shaft slippage and damage to auxiliary components. It can be difficult to dismount the unit when this happens, but the Z-LOCK was designed to withstand this type of punishment and to facilitate smooth installation, operation, and disassembly in virtually any environment.

INSTALL & UNINSTALL PROCEDURE

Tighten four cap bolts in a star pattern like changing an automobile tire.
Disassembly is easily accomplished with two threaded holes in the collar for standard withdrawal dismounting.

The Z-Lock is simple to install:
Tighten the cap screws on the face of the locking collar with the included Allen wrench evenly to draw the collar onto the inner ring.
The Z-lock provides extreme holding power on the shaft without causing any damage. The Z-Lock is a true 360 degree locking system. The roundness of ball (roller) path is almost perfect.

Setscrew locking style inserts allow for easy installation but the 3 point lock that is created by tightening down the two setscrews onto the shaft takes it out of concentricity and can cause shaft marring and other damage to the shafting making it difficult to remove.  The patented FYH Bullet Point Setscrew has solved the problem of backing out due to vibration and causes less shaft damage than traditional setscrews but concentric locking still cannot be perfectly achieved with this locking style.

Adapter sleeve locking systems create one of the best locking methods available for bearings but they require complex installation procedures in order to achieve the desired results. Additional tools such as specialized torque wrenches are required to avoid over-tightening of adapter sleeves which could eliminate clearance between the raceways and rolling elements and cause premature wear and early failure.

Eccentric collar locking style is easy to install, but it is not acceptable for reverse operation, and it can cause marring and other damage to the shaft. Disassembly can be a major challenge if the eccentric collar has seized to the shaft as is common with this style.

CONCENTRIC COLLAR LOCK

Concentric collar locking style is a locking mechanism that effectively creates 360 degrees of shaft contact for smaller shaft sizes, however the locking collar exerts uneven pressure on the inner ring for larger shaft sizes, and does not accurately produce 360 degrees of shaft contact. The holding power does not compare to that of the Z-LOCK. The sizes up to only 212 are available.
